Once again this year, it's my pleasure to be supported by BHS for our school uniforms. Blogging is great fun but it doesn't pay the bills and as nice as it is to be given occasional items for my own wardrobe, it's hugely appreciated when I receive items that actually impact on the household budget in a positive way.
Prior to last year, I had never considered buying uniform from BHS....they just weren't on my radar for this. I have to say that after a full year of 'testing', I remain genuinely impressed by the quality. Overall, I was most impressed with the knitwear, which survived endless washing, so I was a bit gutted that BHS are not stocking green knitwear this year. Thankfully last year's cardigans still fit so they'll do for another while. And if I'm honest, I think they could have gotten a few months more out of their skirts and pinafores too but I have a friend who gratefully took the smaller items as they have plenty of life left in them. My son however was well out of his trousers & jumpers...he now sports a 28" inside leg. I have jeans that size (albeit ankle skimmers) so he's catching up with me rapidly!
As I took the labels off, I was impressed by the technology behind school uniforms now...permanent pleats, Dupont™ Teflon fabric protector, secured hems and quick iron. I'm hoping all of this helps with the weekly wash/iron/prep that starts from next weekend. Nobody wants to spend valuable Downton Abbey time ironing.
Here it is all labelled, ironed and ready at 1am on Saturday night/Sunday morning but the late hour was partly because I was so engrossed in the 2nd series of Damages on DVD while doing it all.
And here are my three kids ready for school this morning on their first day back. A big year for us as it's my son's last year in Primary and after much deliberation and consultation with teachers and other twin parents, we've made the decision to separate the girls for P2. It's going to be really positive for them both but like all parents, at the back of my mind, I'm hoping we're doing the right thing! Time will tell...
A huge thank you to BHS who provided me with shirts, grey pinafore/skirt/trousers, socks, tights & hair accessories for the kids. And thanks to you for supporting the brands that support this blog. There's currently 10% off any last minute uniform and it's just £1 for express delivery using the codes below:
And this video is for those of us who are lucky enough to be kid free during these weekday mornings. I'm taking Wednesday morning off for a bit of #solo shopping - long overdue!

I hope that they had a good first day. The twins (boys) in Manus' class just got split this year (aged 8).
ReplyDeleteWe can only buy our uniforms from one uniform shop which is waaay more expensive than other stores annoyingly and the clothes don't hold up so well....
Ok so I was not quite like the moms in the Target ad but I do love Target and it was a thrill going there this week without kids after 12 weeks.....
Oh golly I haven't even started yet. Mind you I only have one to buy for now so it will be a rush on Wednesday I think. Kids look super smart Avril xx

ReplyDeleteWhen I was little the entire towns school uniform came from a tiny shop called Skoolkit. They stocked all the crested jumpers exclusively - as you can imagine it was a nightmare queuing up done the street. Ridiculous in a town the size of basingstoke! Gingham school dresses were from M&S.
ReplyDeleteI think the schools sell their own crested items now but I don't have to worry about that until 2016 as E is a September baby. I think she'll be more than ready for school by then!
Just finished sewing name labels into all the uniform for my kids! I don't have any brand loyalty when it comes to uniform. Strangely, I've never considered BHS either but it looks great x
ReplyDeleteI've heard really good things about BHS school uniform and ordered some trousers last night. However, I think this post (like me) is a little late as I spent last night trying to buy school uniform and most stuff is now sold out! I think it would be a good idea to post these earlier in the holidays so I can be reminded to get my ass in gear!!! Every year I say I will do it earlier and every year I get distracted by our annual holiday shopping instead which is much more exciting. By the time I get around to it there is nothing left. In fact I've just had an email from Next to tell me that the shirts I ordered last night will arrive at some point October - brilliant! So I will spend Thursday and Friday traipsing around all the shops and supermarkets to try and find stuff for my 3. Joy (but my own fault really).
ReplyDeleteHello Avril from over here in Warwickshire, just thought I'd post a note to say we split our twins up from day one at primary school. They are boy/girl but we thought it would give them a better chance to make friends, although they did have to go back together for a couple of terms later on. Fast forward a few (or more) years and they also went off to separate universities - albeit both to University of Wales but in different places and made lasting friendships! We felt it also helped because they were both good at different subjects which got more apparent as they went through school. My son Paul is brilliant at maths, where Debs is very artistic. Strangely enough, they both did law at uni and are now both lawyers!
ReplyDeleteHave a brilliant day,
Ellen x
Your kids look adorable in their new uniforms - love the little bow on the skirt! I have bought a few uniform bits from BHS before too and been impressed, especially with the blouses.

I am totally in love with BHS atm! All of the kids uniforms came from there again this year & the home dept is really something! My Mum would be so proud of me! Lol! Ax
