Brogues with a Parka?

We're in that funny in-between time of the year. The sandals are out of storage and the boots are away but it's still a bit nippy. It's not easy to dress for so I've been mixing in bits from my winter wardrobe, like today when I had to go get this Boden cardigan mid-morning as I was so cold!

Jeans - Gap Outlet (similar)
White Shirt - Betty Barclay @ John Lewis
Brogues - Clarks
When it came to the school run, I couldn't decide what jacket to go for. Initially, I put on this stone coloured jacket I've had for ages from H&M

I decided it was .... a bit 'meh' so I dug out my Warehouse Parka to see if it would work better. One of the reasons I bought this parka was that it has a removable furry lining. So I de-fuzzed it at the weekend and it's a really nice weight for this time of year. What do you think?

I'm still not sure and the hubby started playing The Who on Spotify when he saw me....but I wore it out anyway. Sometimes it's nice to mix it up!
Mostly I was distracted from my coat musings by these brogues...officially obsessed. Why it's taken me so long to embrace this trend, I'll never know. I'm slow on the uptake mostly but I'm also deeply suspicious of very masculine trends.

They're still available in Clarks even though my mother in law bought them last summer. And if you're interested in them or something similar, I've rounded up some picks from the high street on this collage. Because I'm really getting into my collages these days...have you noticed?!

Haven't forgotten the 'how I wear harems' post I promised....it should be coming up next. But before then, I've a wedding to go to! Yes - tonight, I am honoured to be attending the wedding party for Dawn, my blogging friend who got married in Las Vegas last month. LOTS of photos to come soon - keep an eye on Insta & Facebook!

  1. I'm a bit like you on the brogue front. At first I couldn't stand them, but actually seeing them on Michelle in March started the change of mind! I'm tempted to invest, but I'm not 100% convinced yet that I'd get the wear out of them. As for the weather ... don't get me started. We're in that 'four seasons, one day' stage at the moment, so it's just impossible to know what to wear x

  2. Hi Avril, liking the parka and brogues, they look good on you, I have tried on brogues not quite sure they are me, but how many times have I said that and done a complete about face. Hope the site has settled down, I like it!

  3. I really like the cut out brogues from Clarks that are being used in all their magazine adverts at the moment, I think they are bottom right in your collage above. If not those then they are identical!

  4. So when I bought my brogues 2 years ago, I was setting a trend. :D :D

  5. I've been toying with the Brogue trend for ages and still haven't bought any! I love the Parka's with the detachable lining making them light enough for spring x

  6. Ooh, so pretty! I love brogues, and own a few pairs, but we have officially turned the corner to summer here in VA, so I will live vicariously through you in this post. :)

BTW, you rock those skinny jeans so well, Avril!

  7. I love them but I always get a leaning to wear more 'mannish' trousers with them. I think you great and, if I am honest, I quite like the swing coat too. I think Clarks are so on top of their game right now. H xx

  8. The Clarks brogues need a good spray of Scotchguard.

Mine got ruined in a shower of rain!

I've been late to embrace brogues as well, but recently bought some from White Stuff, and really love them!

  11. Hi. I LOVE this outfit on you. Every time I see those jeans on you I want them. I just don't seem to get away with the white shirt/jeans look even though I think it looks lovely on you. I think because I have short hair I look very masculine. Must dig out my old brogues!

  12. I love this outfit Avril - everything about it. Been hunting for The Perfect White Shirt and brogues myself, may have to check out those Clarks ones if they're still available! When the trend first came in they all seemed so hard and stiff, but I like the newer, softer styles and how they can really change an outfit.

  13. Bowled over by those gorgeous Clarks brogues!! They look great with both outfits! So perfect for the tricky transitional weather we've been having of late! I love my tan Office brogues but could definitely justify a pair of these Clarks ones as they are such a great neutral colour that goes with everything! xx

  14. I love brogues, loved wearing them when I was a teenager and glad to see them come round again .... Just wondering about the other trend in deck shoes .... My 14 year old daughter says NO even though they are in most fashion lines. Mine are from Dune in the classic navy and cream , just stuck how to wear them without looking like WI tartan skirt wearer ??

  15. Lol at the WI comment. I think the key with a traditional shoe like that is to edge it up a bit so I'd wear the deck shoes with a distressed jean and t-shirt. Nothing too dressy or formal on top, though you could throw a wee jacket on too. But keep it edgy - something boxy and a bit on-trend. Not a blazer? Have a look on google images or pinterest and you might see some combinations you like the look of! x

  16. Loving the look with the parka and classic white shirt. I look I am trying to achieve myself on the hunt for a spring/summer parka. I haven't gone down the brogue line but there are a few I like..... Love them with classic shirts and ankle grazer jeans or boyfriends rolled up for that classic Margeret Howell look . X

  17. I really do need some brogues - you look amazing in yours. I did try some on from Clarks and I'm regettting sending them back. What do you wear on your feet for brogues that have cut outs? Socks won't look nice and bare feet my get sore (and smelly!)

I think its a perfect outfit & what do Husbands know?! I still haven't gone down the brogues route but so tempted as they look great on everyone else! xx

  19. I love you in the parka and shirt and brogues - very crisp colour combo. And I like the "nude" colour of the brogues - makes them so much softer and more wearable. Going to steal your style on this one I think!
