When I was having my hair and make-up done by Gemma & Lynne for the In Magazine Awards, they were telling me about the work they both do for A21 - a global charity that raises awareness and helps victims of human trafficking. Gemma is heading over to volunteer in the A21 shelter in Greece (Europe's human trafficking capital) in just a few weeks to see for herself the challenges the charity faces on a daily basis and ahead of this trip, both girls are doing a ton of fundraising.
Gemma had the idea of commissioning Linzi, local designer and owner of Elephant Juice, who makes limited edition pieces from antique silver cutlery, to come up with a symbolic necklace design - a combination of a butterfly (change) and a key (freedom). The girls are selling a very small number of these unique solid silver pieces over the next few weeks for £47 each. They're all the one design but each one is slightly different as it's hand made from a different piece of cutlery.
Well, I am honoured to be the first person to own one....I picked mine up from Gemma earlier this week and have worn it every day since...I'm loving the slightly brushed silver effect and the fact that it can be worn either way round.
Yesterday, it got a dose of orange when I wore it with a Gap jersey top which firmly puts me in a good mood as it positively glows with neon-ness! If you stand close to me when I wear it, I promise you'll glow too! (it looks coral on the website but it's definitely neon in real life - down to £5.99 at the moment!)
It's the kind of top that needs toned down a bit with a neutral so I teamed it with a stone coloured H&M jacket that I've had for a couple of years now and a scarf I picked up in local store, Heatons, which ties the colours together nicely. And then I got photo-bombed...
Add in my Boden blue crossbody, Gap skinnies and Gap metallic flats and I'm good to go..
If you'd like to buy one of these necklaces to support Lynne & Gemma's fundraising, just drop me an email to [email protected] and I'll put you in touch with the girls.

Hi Mel, no - not at all! It's completely smoothed - the edges and the surface. A little sharp around the edges of the key part but no more so than a normal key and not jagged in anyway that it would catch on clothing or anything. Beautifully finished. I think it might have been made from a spoon? Hope that helps! Ax
