April Style Challenge - Consignment

Ok - hands up...the March Style Challenge didn't go well. Sorry. Believe me when I tell you I went into my usual charity shops every single week for the whole month and found nothing...nada...zilch. But I reckon now the weather's improved, people will have started their clear outs and April may be a good month for charity shops? I'll keep you posted.

But it's a new month so time for a  new challenge.Consignment

This month I'm focussing on consignment stores. I get people asking me all the time about what to do with their good clothing. Items that were expensive so you're reluctant to give to charity but apart from taking a risk on eBay, how can you sell them?

Consignment stores sell good quality clothing, shoes and accessories on your behalf. They charge for the service by taking a proportion of what the item was sold for (usually 50%)  but generally speaking, they do get a higher price for the item in the first place and it's worth remembering that for items that are going to fetch >£100, selling by consignment is a much safer option than the likes of eBay.

So for the month of April, I'll be visiting some local consignment stores as well as telling you about some I've found online. One of which is Siopaella - a great consignment store in Dublin that posts out items beyond Ireland. I bought my grey handbag from them last year - you can read about it on this post.

Let's hope for a bit more success with the April challenge! As always, please share with me any experiences you've had yourself with consignment buying or selling. Just pop any links into your comments.

  1. What a great little shop Avril. I've never ever been into a consignment shop before. In fact I can't even think where there is one nearby. I shall seek and I shall find. Looking forward to your update xx

  2. I usually eBay stuff but I'm tempted to give a consignment store ago as Royal Mail have hiked up their postage prices again and it's hardly worth the effort these days.....I can't be alone in this so I'm sure you will unearth some really good pieces xx

  3. A good consignment shop in Dublin you say? Excellent. It's nice to hear about things near me and not just in the UK! There's another consignment shop ten minutes from me too that I've been meaning to go into for ages so maybe your challenge is just the excuse I need to pop into both of them :)

  4. What a great idea. I have two Mother of Bride outfits which are practically brand new plus other one off occasion outfits. Be good to know where I could take them for an honest price .
