The Mint Velvet Wonder LBD

You want a wonder dress girls? I've found it for you! I'll be honest, it's not at all what I expected from a brand known for relaxed day wear but trust me, it's a keeper! Twin wobbly tummy flattened in an instant, no miracle knickers needed underneath, perfect length and neckline - tis the LBD of your dreams! Meet the Mint Velvet Bandage Dress and thanks to Fiona from Avenue 57 for introducing me to it...you can see Fiona wearing hers today too, on this link:
Not Bondage as my husband thought...no you cheeky man, BAndage! So named because it's inspired by a certain designer's body con dresses but this Mint Velvet one has a more ruffled effect going on which is way more flattering to wear.
I styled this for a night out - it's got some satin down the sides so it's most definitely a going out dress, perfect for a dinner date or for a glam girls' night out. Just like a wardrobe staple LBD should be.
I also styled it for a day at the races, wearing a headpiece from Debenhams..
and it looks great with my ASOS blazer...as do most things in my wardrobe, come to think of it..
And you know the best bit of this dress...you don't just get to see it on me...because 5 other women from Avenue 57 (real women - not just bloggers) got to try it out too. All different sizes, shapes and ages and I think you'll agree when you see the photos that it works brilliantly on everyone! Click on the image to read more...

  1. Looks fantastic on you. I got the long sleeved version last year and it is really flattering too. Worn it a lot more than I thought I would.

  2. ooh a long sleeved version? Do they still sell that?
The dress was amazing on - it really felt very good and I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge. I was sceptical that this one style would suit all dress sizes from 8-18 but it did - well done to Mint Velvet!

  5. Hi Avril. I saw that dress last week in House of Fraser and it looked good - but very good on you. Mint velvet had some beautiful items. I eyed up a lovely khaki (http://tiny.cc/b9hxkw)coloured silk blouse. Would love to wear it with leggings (the mint velvet grey ones!) but am not sure if they are too "young" for me? What do you think - what else could I wear under it?

    1. Hi there...have to say, I'm not overly keen on the blouse, only because it would add too much volume to the hip area. If you're straight up and down tho, it might work better. I would want to brighten it up a bit with other colours. Would probably wear with burgundy jeans and a scarf that tied in the two colours or possibly with a white vest under and black skinnies, again tieing in a great scarf. I think grey would be a bit dull with it. I would prefer this Stone Georgette Silk Blouse - it's more of a classic shape and could be worn open and loose or tucked in. Nicer colour too that would work across the seasons. But with all these things, getting in there and seeing them in real life is the only way to be sure! Hope this helps, Avril x

  15. Oh totally rocking the little black dress and a woman after my own heart. Black opaques. Don't know what I would do without them when I have to wear a dress in the evenings.

  20. Ok, I bow to your superior knowledge!! Tried this dress on today and it is gorgeous - feels so good on! The girl said that there will be more similar styles arriving in the run up to Christmas - different colours, some with sleeves some with embellishment at the neckline..........might just save up for a Christmas treat!!
