I tried on a pair of 'Magic' jeans at one of our stores and felt like I was in a straight jacket - has made me rather sceptical.

They both look great Avril and what super prices:) Ive just bought a pair of Levi demi curve skinny jeans that are suppose to do something with my bum!! Ive lost quite a bit of weight recently (dropped over 1 stone) and have put off buying new jeans - waiting for the weight to come back;) After seeing my new jeans on, I really realised how unflattering my too big jeans really looked. I will be sending my mum to Tesco and Sainsbuy's to grab a couple of bargain skinnes to fill up my wardrobe again:)

Hi Sharon - yes, pert is a good word...and one I didn't think would be used in describing my bum at age 40! So thank you! But yes, I think the Tesco ones give me more shape but they don't really make the bum look smaller. Keeping both pairs. Kind of hoped one would replace the other but hey - can never have enough jeans? Ax

I agree with you - get a pair that fits properly and you're happy in - will always look 100% better on than a pair that you're uncomfortable in. Mostly I cover my bum anyway so it doesn't really matter that much. You need to tell me more about the Gap thing? Though will it put me off too? x

Can't see much difference Avril - they both look fine (love the way you are hoisting up your top so we can have a good look!) but think I prefer the pockets on the Sainsburys jeans. Been having a nightmare with mine - always have a problem with them gaping at the waist. Actually did get a pair of skinnies from Primark yesterday - £7 and they fit perfectly - may go back for another colour! xx

I love the Next Lift, Slim and Shape jeans and have two pairs and a pair of Lift and Shape skinny grey trousers which also have a bit of stretch. But these were £45 a pair. So would be happy if these do the same thing. Prefer the Sainsbury's ones on you but you look great in both!

Hi there! having studied both bottoms purely for denim research (!) my humble opinion is it's not your bottom that looks different, it's the top stitching above the pockets and the shape and stitching of the pockets in general too-saying all that, I do think the Tesco jeans make a derriere look more pert and therefore agree with your decision, hehe!! xxx

I think it has got a lot to do with pocket placement... These both look great, but I think your bum actually looks smaller (not that it needs to!) in the Sainsbury ones, and I think that may be to do with the more obvious top stitching above the pockets (with draws the eye up) and the shape and design of the pockets... Tend to agree with Louise above, that the Sainsbury ones look a little more dressy and the Tesco ones more casual...
There's a whole new field of science in this I guess!

Well Avril, its a tough call as they both look great, I think the Sainburys for a good occasions and the Tescos for day wear. I tried a pair of really expensive jeans before I think they were lifted and push thing in all directions. I tried the Primark ones recently and they were pretty good.

I keep seeing them and I look at the back of them and I don't like the extra darts they have to put in which spoils the classic look of how a pair of jeans should be for me. So far I have resisted on those accounts though the shape and lift factor does hold some appeal.

There probably isn't much in it but I have a tendency to go with what feels better to wear - so I would go for the Tescos. When they are fitted properly over the hips, they actually stay up. Took me years of low slung jeans to work that out but you know what, I still prefer a slightly lower rise - how else can I do a fashion tuck :o)

I did see a really detailed jean review not so long ago which dissected the placement of back pockets and stuff and I can never look at a pair of Gap jeans in the same way again. Sigh.
