Splurge v Save

When I look through magazines, one of my favourite features are the ones where they show something designer and ridiculously priced and show beside it an amazing inexpensive version. So I decided to do one myself - inspired by some Rag & Bone style boots I saw in M&S...
Splurge - Rag & Bone / Save - M&S
Splurge - Rebecca Taylor / Save - New Look

Splurge - Jerome Dreyfuss  / Save - Boden

Splurge - Saint Laurent / Save - Fillipa K

Splurge - Alexander McQueen / Save - M&S

Splurge - DKNY / Save - Primark
(not online - but have seen in-store!)

Splurge - Lanvin / Save - Boden

Splurge - Eudon Choi  / Save - Next
Now if I was a good blogger, this is the place I would give you a balanced piece of writing about my views on the matter of splurging and saving and designers being ripped off on the high street.

The truth is, this blog post took me literally AGES to do (those spend/splurge titles are v challenging you know!) it's now almost midnight, my head is pounding and I NEED my bed.

But do tell me what you think...

  2. Sometimes the splurge is totally worth it Avril, but most of the time the save option is a pretty good one. I have a real thing about trying to buy leather as I think it will last longer so don't mind splurging a bit on that. But otherwise save is usually the options pick!!

  3. I am always going to splurge on my Newburys - once you've gone there there is no coming back:) I do love my Boden clutch - for a bag that is only used occasionally it fills the 'leopard clutch' spot perfectly - but you picked out the Jerome Dreyfuss bag I had on my wish list - now I want it more - grrr!:) I love these kinds of features as there are some seasonal items where you really do just want a quick fix from Primark or Target. There is another magazine here that does 3 options - cash, check or credit:)

    1. Great minds....I'd never heard of Jerome Dreyfuss before! Oh and I like the idea of cash, check and credit...tho that would be three pictures and three sets of titles. Yikes! Ax

  4. I think (budget permitting) that it's worth splurging on items we wear a lot, for a long time - which in my book = 1. boots, handbag & coat 2. + good jeans, cashmere jumper, dress up or down dress 3. quality watch & statement necklace.

So far in my (rather long) life I'm still at no1, with aspirations to no2 this year & no3 whenever! ;)

As I said when we last met, I'd rather have less that I love & wear it regularly than lots that I'm not fussed about. So I'll happily scrimp on an evening top, clutch or outrageous shoes that I'll only wear a handful of times & splurge on things I'll wear day in, day out.

Mind you, my idea of splurge may not be on a par with others!

  5. Generally, you do get what you pay for although I would say high fashion items should always be save.

    1. You are very right Jane - no point in paying a fortune for something you'll only wear a few times. Ax

  6. I think I'm a bit of a Saver Avril - wasn't always the case but it seems to be these days! I do, however have a thing for leather jackets though! xx

    1. I agree there - leather is worth paying for if you can. Here's hoping we'll have loads to spend on clothes when the kids all clear off working!! Ax

  7. Great post Avril & I must admit to being a high street kind of girl, as long as the style & quality are there why pay more plus it means extra pennies in the pot for more purchases ;-) x

  8. I love a bit of both and sometimes only the splurge will do. But isn't it nice when we get to treat ourselves?

And yep - hear your pain on the titles - they are a booger to get right - probably why I don't do it very often or I would never get a post out.
