Bringing out the Autumn Tops...

Just a quick post tonight as I'm badly in need of an early night. Book club is on Thursday night and I've still got 1/3rd of the book to go! It's a fab read - can thoroughly recommend even though I've not finished it yet. It's called 'The Light Between Oceans'.

Also this week, I started singing with my new choir, Belfast Community Gospel Choir. One word - WOW. What an amazing talented group of people - I was blown away last night! Thankfully, by the end of first rehearsal I was getting the hang of the hand movements and with a bit of work at home, I'll be ready for our CD recording in October. Just 9 more songs to learn...
You can hear the choir sing on the Youtube channel on this link and check out the website if you want to know where we're singing locally over the next few months.

The theme this week so far has been finally wearing some heavier tops that I picked up in the sales. Yay! Yesterday was a soft and cosy cream jersey top from Joules that I bought on holiday in Portrush in July. I remember sweltering as I tried it on...yesterday I had to add a scarf...the 'I' print scarf from the shop. It's a classic simple scarf that looks fab with cream.
I started out in my Hobbs loafers (eBay) but it soon became clear that the ankles were not happy...so for the school run the ankle boots (Clarks via eBay) and a jacket (H&M SS12) were added. Jeans are my Maison Scotch bargains that I am struggling not to wear most days as they fit so nicely.
Tuesday, it was the turn of a Petit Bateau breton that I got from Atterley Road back in May or June. It's the most amazing quality and a lovely weight - perfect for autumn though unfortunately out of stock now. It was a nicer day today, so the ankles got out for a dander and I didn't need a jacket. Same jeans today...was a grab and run kind of getting dressed today!

Top - Petit Bateau via Atterley Road (similar here & here)
Grey Leather Handbag - Siopaella (consignment store)
Scarf - TK Maxx (AW12)
Jeans - Maison Scotch (AW12 similar here)
Burgundy Pumps - Clarks (ancient)

Sorry about the mirror selfies - my budding photographers are in school all day now! Will have to dust off the tripod tomorrow!
Hope you're having a good week so far...back tomorrow with some pictures from my kids' first day back at school..was I sobbing or celebrating? Watch this space :)

  1. Loving the first outfit with the 'I scarf', boots and H&M jacket. It's amazing how quickly the temperatures have dropped - I was in the city centre yesterday and everyone was wearing coats and scarves. (And have to admit, there's a little part of me that's really happy to see Autumn return!)

  2. Looking forward to pulling out the coats and scarves myself, had my first one on a few days ago but it was more down to having a stinking cold than actually needing it, but I would say they will be in full force this weekend looking at the abysmal day outside! Love those jeans, wish I had went and had a look for them at the time you got them Avril. Oh well my Zara ones are serving me well at the minute!x

    1. Oh I know you should have - there were a few pairs and smaller ones too! Don't think about it - I'm just relieved I got them as I had no money that day and dithered and dithered! Ax

  4. I reviewed The Light Between Oceans last year and loved it...when I stopped crying! I have a little query re the BF jeans as I'm considering dabbling ... how to wear them in cooler seasons. Would socks peeking above ankle boots look silly or not?

    1. Oh my...I sobbed all last night finishing it. And am still thinking about it today!
Regarding the BF jeans - defo no to ankle sock peepage. I get those awful foot covering things - and depending on the cut of the boots, the sport socks that just cover your feet can work. Always get them in the colour of the boot so they are as discreet as possible xx

  6. I'm so happy that we can finally get out the autumn tops and scarves.

The burgundy scarf works so well with the navy breton and grey bag - the colours really suit you. Love it. :-)

(Off to check out your choir...)

  7. Avril, I love that shawl! I've worn Petit Bateau bretons for years and years. In fact, most of my basics are from PB along with nearly half of Lil L's wardrobe too. Lovely quality and they just last and last.

    1. My sister raves about them for the kids but I was always too tight to pay for it! But it makes perfect sense for us mums as you wear bretons and basic tops for years. I have one from a less expensive shop that I only got a year out of and it was in the charity bag. False economy for such a classic wardrobe item x

  8. Hi Avril, really cold over here in Warwickshire - yep the temperatures have really dropped + the evenings, in particular, seem very chilly. I came to work yesterday without a scarf and as it turned windy (and I don't 'do' wind) I had to go out at lunchtime and buy one! Managed to get a lovely grey + pink ex New Look one from a local charity shop and I'm actually wearing it as I type this!
    Have a good day,
    Ellen x

    1. That was a good plan! We get gorgeous scarves into my charity shop too...it's a great place to pick them up inexpensively. Yes, I think from now on, it's a scarf every day. Lovely to hear from you again Ellen, hope you are well! Avril x
