All three kids are going to primary school this September so I wasn't looking forward to the cost of it all. I was therefore very grateful when BHS approached me to do some testing of their school uniform in the last few weeks of summer term.
I've never bought school uniform in BHS before. For the past few years, I've just headed for the same well known retailer looking for that balance of quality and price. BHS was never on my radar. But having tested the product and seen the prices, I'm a convert!
I tried out about 10 items and was most impressed with the following items for the girls:
This pinafore was a huge hit with the girls, thanks to the pretty satin bow detail on the waistline. It's the kind of material that never loses its pleat and I can confirm it takes 5 minutes to dry and no ironing required!
This little cardigan was another hit, washed really well and looked great after a few weeks of daily wear and regular washing. Way cheaper than the crested ones I was going to buy and prettier too.
The summer dresses were so nice, I bought them in bigger sizes for next year and the year after (I do stuff like that) - they are reduced to £3.50 right now. No brainer! I previously bought the white collar (polo shirt style) dresses when the girls were in nursery and they were really difficult to keep clean - the collar always looked dirty even after washing at 60 degrees. These ones were much easier to keep and the drop waist style was so pretty. They come with a matching scrunchie for your ponytail too - which my girls loved.
For my son, the best item was the shoes, which stood the test really well (he's SO hard on shoes!) I would never have considered buying him shoes from a high street store, as opposed to a proper shoe shop. Time will tell as to whether they last as long as others he's had but they performed pretty well in the month we tested them and most importantly, he liked them...which makes life so much easier.
I also was impressed with the non-iron shirts. While (as is the case with ALL non-iron shirts I've ever bought from any shop) they do need a quick iron after washing, these were as good as, if not better than the more expensive ones I bought for him last year from another high street store. Price difference - £3. It all adds up when you're buying for 3!
While I was in picking up the test uniform, I bought the most gorgeous hair sets, socks and tights for the girls also.
The selection was great in my local store (Bow Street, Lisburn) and the staff were very helpful.
I can confirm that no children were injured in the making of this blog post.
:)
Disclaimer : The uniform items I've featured were gifted (as part of a testing panel arrangement). I wasn't obliged to blog about it and all opinions and conclusions are my own...obviously.
Interesting. I would never link of BHS for uniform either. I didn't even know they had shoes!
ReplyDeleteMe either - and actually, in Lisburn, they have Dorothy Perkins and Wallis in the BHS store. Bonus :)
DeleteNever considered BHS either & all sound like bargains!
ReplyDeleteIt is our uniform shop next week so may try BHS instead of the usual store!
Thanks for the useful info x

Thanks Ruth - I was the same as you! Good to have a few options to try as often things are not in stock in the right size everywhere. Happy uniform shopping! x
DeleteI've purchased from BHS since p1 and always been very pleased. ..my Lucy especially liked the pinafore you featured, it was well worn last year. I have 2 in uniform this year, so I'm definitely stocking up on essential items from there. :-)
ReplyDeleteGood luck in the new term!
It's a great wee pinafore...glad you've had a good experience too. Good luck yourself - will be a busy September getting back into the routine again! x
