I don't normally do posts like this but when I was sent the link to a video of a rap song called 'The Motherhood' on YouTube, I knew you'd love it.
I'd been checking out some of the Gangham Style parodies on the internet as my son is obsessed with the track and had heard from his friends that there were some funny ones out there. In the midst of this, I got the email telling me about 'The Motherhood' and before I knew it, the 8 year old and I were singing along - me laughing at the hilarious references to motherhood and my son loving the rap aspect of it as well as the dancing kids. I think most of the lyrics went right over his head!
I doubt there's a mum out there who won't identify with at least one of the references the mum on the video makes. From the first line 'this is my crib and these are my babes' to filling up your timeline with my baby news and my own personal favourite 'joined a book club just so I could drink some wine'…yes, i have personal experience of that :)
There was also an emotional pull with it as it reminds me so much of the adjustment I had to make in my head when I went from career woman to mum. From the change in body shape and wardrobe (which inspired me to start this blog) to the complete change in girlie conversation topics. It's quite a challenge as many of you will know and while I know you wouldn't have it any other way, it's lovely to be able to sit back and laugh out loud (albeit in a slightly manic sleep-deprived way)!
I hope you enjoy and please share with the rest of 'The Motherhood'! x

DeleteWow. I still can't believe this adorable video hasn't gone viral!! I am an American mother of five & even though my youngest is nearly eighteen, this parody of rappers-meet-mums is ingenious! I never tire of watching it!
