I'm looking a bit smarter today which is hopefully useful for those of you who need a working wardrobe on a budget. I've had a few emails from working mums recently, asking for suggestions for this time of year.
I'm wearing white bootcut trousers from H&M. Got these in a flash sale they had a few months ago. I shared the news about this sale on Facebook and I know some of you picked up great bargains at the time. These were just £7! Unfortunately no longer available online but these ones from Marks & Spencer are similar.
You know my fondness for tunics by now and I bought today's black sleeveless linen blend tunic about 15 years ago in Kookai and have worn it endlessly since. I've had a little look to find some similar ones available online...

You can just see my M&S hairy black pumps from my post last week. Have decided to keep them but the jury's still out on the others...what do you think?
See you tomorrow :)
PS The competition winner will be announced later this evening - lots of entries to process :)
You've hit the nail on the head over the Working Mum's Dilemma in lower paid jobs. I can't afford after school or holiday childcare, as it would cost me over double what I actually earn myself. I get round this by working in a school term time only & having a friend collect my children. The school's breakfast club is subsidised, so I can afford before school care. I also can't afford to spend lots of money on clothes for work. I get round this by wearing coloured jeans & leggings with smart tops, but do feel some days that I'd like to differentiate more between workwear & smart casual outfits I wear at home. It was easy when I was a banker as I wore suits to work & jeans at weekends.
ReplyDeleteI am starting to look for smarter clothes as my blog takes me to PR events etc which is also new and exciting. Also a lover of tunics so will be checking this blog more often for tips, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI've got those black 'hairy' shoes too and I love them.
ReplyDeleteI could really do with some advice for my work wardrobe. I need to be smart-ish for work - I'm a PA - not suits but smart separates or dresses.
I recently had a wardrobe clear out and am left with two pairs of black trousers, a black skirt and various tops. I really need to re-stock but don't know where to start. I need to build up a good, flexible wardrobe that will give me a number of different looks.
Any suggestions would be gratefully received
